Fixed itself.

shits me to tears

zaxxon: Get your fucking fingers out of my code.

Raspberry pi 4 bricking guide

zaxxon: they killed it's killer feature: no firmware to brick. Now it has some, and you can brick it (apparently).
zaxxon: Even if you can't, saying that you can probably amounts to as effective an attack as any.
zaxxon: It also replicates the age-old PC BIOS reflash tool lockin feature, ie you need to run their OS, not some other OS, or you can't keep up to date with the 'critical' features (none of which seem to be well explained, just 'hey, trust us, you need it').
zaxxon: If I wanted all these headaches, I would buy a properly engineered laptop with an on-site warranty and somebody with a screwdriver to fix it for me.
zaxxon: supposedly the tool isn't so much needed, shall I find time to test? "...copy recovery.bin, pieeprom.upd and vl805.bin along with signature files for each to the boot partition. Upon reboot the Pi’s bootloader will load and execute recovery.bin which then flashes the update files after checking that they match the signatures in signature files..."
zaxxon: problem is, the device is so cheap, it's easier to throw it in the bin.
zaxxon: It's a funny punchline isn't it, 28 responses, how to, how do I, will it ... and actually all you needed to do was copy six files.
zaxxon: We call that over-engineered bullshit in the trade.
zaxxon: RASPBERRY: WRITE PROPER DOCUMENTATION OR GET FUCKED.
zaxxon: eg step 1, copy six files, step two reboot, done.
zaxxon: Next week we kill some coral.
zaxxon: Frankly, I don't believe the explanation that this is for engineering purposes, and I think it's just yet another NSA/MI5/KGB/China backdoor to stop us finding the kiddie porn you hide on our machines.
zaxxon: prove me wrong.
zaxxon: boot flow is supposed to boot from ROM and is then able to read SD card looking for upgrade BIOS, why not WHY NOT JUST BOOT THAT?
zaxxon: Instead supposedly it 'executes it to flash the EEPROM' so why can't it execute it to boot instead?
zaxxon: If the bootloader code on the SD card is the same as the code in the EEPROM, can it just boot the EEPROM?
zaxxon: But if it boots the recovery.bin, the recovery.bin then alters the card it just booted from, to rename itself. Proper engineering would suggest not modifying things, by default. Why don't you hire proper engineers? You manage to make all that tech using crap engineers?
zaxxon: the proper job for the TLAs is to keep people who make money selling useless firmware chips from weasling their way into companies like Raspberry.
zaxxon: It's a taxpayer protected charity FFS I have a right to whinge.
zaxxon: looks like they compromise engineering principals to dodge tax among other reasons
zaxxon: I'm just guessing.
zaxxon: <If it doesn't fix itself, sometimes I use a hammer.>
zaxxon: the charging port is screwed also
zaxxon: is/was ymmv
